Zimbabwe

Please share this about Zimbabwe in your local churches & through various media:
Emergency Resolution on Zimbabwe from The United Reformed Church General Assembly 2008

General Assembly reflecting on the continuing humanitarian and political crisis in Zimbabwe following the flawed presidential run-off held at the end of June:

1. Strongly condemns the violent tactics employed by the ruling party to intimidate, abuse and destroy the Zimbabwean people.

2. Commends our church partners in the Zimbabwe Council of Churches, Evangelical Alliance of Zimbabwe and Catholic Bishops’ Conference in Zimbabwe and other regional and international agencies for condemning this brutality.

3. Adds the voice of the United Reformed Church to those calling for an immediate end to violence and human rights violations in Zimbabwe and for the establishment of a transitional government to negotiate a framework for political and economic recovery.

4. Calls on local churches to continue praying for justice and peace to be restored to Zimbabwe, and to offer hospitality and support to Zimbabweans living in their communities.

5. Calls on the Government of the UK to stop all deportations to Zimbabwe and to give urgent attention to the welfare of thousands of destitute Zimbabweans in the United Kingdom awaiting Appeal Court rulings.

6. Instructs the Mission Committee to send a delegation from the United Reformed Church including Zimbabwean nationals to raise these issues with the Foreign Secretary.
