In Taiwan our synod group have begun their homeward bound journey back to the UK.
They have shared almost 2 weeks in Chiayi and Taipei with our Global mission partners in The Presbyterian Church.
Whilst there there has been a very minor earthquake in Chiayi which happened after they had left for Taiwan. No major damage has been done to the area but the weather was rainy and stormier than usual. More info on that click: http://www.chinapost.com.tw/taiwan/local/chiayi/2009/10/12/228346/Groups-on.htm
Some of the stories and reflections of the visit can be found on Kathryn Radcliffes blog and the group will be meeting to debrief and plan how they share their visit with the local churches and synod at the end of November supported by Revd Dr John Parry & Revd Shou-Hui Chung. But please do contact John or Shou-Hui or the group if you would like them to come and share about their visit in Sunday worship, a womens, youth or mens group at your church or community project. They would be really encouraged about this.
The group are:
Angela Bogg - St Peters Church & Chaplaincy
Kathryn Radcliffe - The Heatons URC, Stockport
Marion Heyes & Melanie Lloyd - St. Marks URC, Wythenshawe
People who have overseas visits sometimes feel that once they have shared in their local church & at synod then there is little interest from other local churches and struggle to create opportunities to share about our mission partners so please do all you can in your local United Reformed Churches (or others) to encourage the group to make new links and connections, perhaps to hold a coffee morning to share at, have a photo exhibition, invite them to share with your Pilots group or create a special Taiwanese event with food to share.
Blessings as you do - John & Shou-Hui are willing to support churches in different ways since I am now off on maternity leave until summer 2010!
