Sri Lanka - September update

As you will know, the situation in Sri Lanka is still appalling. 280,000 men, women and children, IDPs are being forcibly kept, in horrendous conditions, in internment (actually extermination) camps - regularly people are being "disappeared", and the deaths are continuing from lack of food and medicine. Health and sanitation conditions are terrible, and the monsoon season is coming. Today the UNICEF country rep has been told by the SLG that he must leave the country. We reported on the World church blog about the channel 4 reporter being deported back in May, after his coverage of the camps.

At the end of August a video film of SL soldiers executing a naked and bound Tamil man was been released by Channel 4 news. This is a serious allegation of war crimes. (It was filmed in January 09 and it took eight months for it to come out of the island).
