Revd Dr John Parry & Revd Sarah Moore from North Western Synod are currently visiting Taiwan! John, a tutor at our Northern College within the synod, is visiting as part of his sabbatical time and is visiting theological colleges whilst there. Sarah is involved with a ministers exchange begun a couple of years ago for new ministers to share cross-cultural experiences together. John and Sarah have also visited Taipei, the Taiwanese capital, in the north of the country.
A minister from Wales synod, Revd Kate Gartside, is also visiting our Presbytery partners in Chiayi where she has been preaching at Revd Dr James Pan's East Gate church twice with Taiwanese translation too! James is currently the Moderator of the General Assembly of The Presbyterian Church in Taiwan.
It is hoped that all members of our churches in the North Western Synod will have seen the DVD given out at last synod and begun to pray regularly for our partner church in Taiwan. Here's what our synod's churches have been up to in addition to watching the DVD:
One Lancashire Area church in our synod is setting up a young peoples link with young people in a Taiwanese church in Chiayi. One Cumbria Area church has written to their MP in relation to the earlier statement on the PCT Taiwanese Declaration. (see below on this blog)
One South Area church celebrated Taiwanese (& Chinese) New Year with lots of food & conversation.
What have Central Area been up to for us to share here?!
Several churches in South Area have invited speakers about Taiwan & Chiayi Presbytery including a Pilots group, women's groups, fellowship groups. Many of these have wanted to buy some of the special beads that were shown and/or the cd of Taiwanese music which is also available to all churches. The money for these has gone directly to those who supplied these products to us from Taiwan.
Are there suggestions about what local churches would like in order to help benefit our partnership or to offer to it? Please contact Revd Mike Walsh or Kate Gray by phone or email - (we're in the synod handbook - speak with your church secretary for details!)
